“After learning that she was dying of cancer, Judy Davanzo created a charity that arranges outings for caregivers.
Ms. Davanzo, a mother of two and former teacher, died April 2 at age 49. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001. By 2005, doctors believed she was cancer-free, but in 2012 she learned that metastatic breast cancer had spread to her liver.
A friend, Lee Kappelman, who helped create the charity, said Ms. Davanzo’s reaction to finding out her cancer had returned was to worry about her husband: ‘How could he be a caregiver, husband, father and breadwinner at the same time? Who would take care of him?'”
