Johns Hopkins Hospital social worker Liz Single nominated her patient Kris Shanklin and her family members for a CaringOn gift. Kris is a 28 year old young woman who received a shocking diagnosis of leukemia that required her to relocate back to Maryland from Hawaii. Her husband Frank helped her through chemotherapy, radiation and a bone marrow transplant even though he was not permitted to be by her side for every hospital visit because of Covid-19. Her father Kenrick commuted between New York and Maryland to prepare her meals and raised money for her medical expenses by selling food at a fundraising event. Her mother Lana arranged for her to get quality medical care at Johns Hopkins Hospital. CaringOn helped Kris thank her family for taking such good care of her during her rollercoaster healthcare journey by arranging for Kris, Frank, Kenrick, and Lana to enjoy spa services, a luxury dinner, and an overnight stay at a charming bed and breakfast. Her husband Frank is pictured here enjoying time at the bed and breakfast and celebrating Kris’ successful journey of survivorship.
